Which legendaries you can catch will depend on which version of the game you have. If you own Pokemon Shining Pearl, Palkia will be available. If you own Pokemon Brilliant Diamond, Dialga will be available.
Although everyone loves catching legendary pokemon, there is something better — catching a shiny! Even better, a shiny legendary!
Catching legendaries is different to catching regular pokemon, as they aren’t encountered in the wild. Instead, they can usually be caught by progressing through the main story.
Recommended Items For Catching Shiny Palkia
Before starting, we suggest you purchase at least 20 Ultra Balls and 5 Quick Balls from the Pokemart. You will also need 15 Hyper Potions and 5 Max Potions. Lastly, purchase 10 Revives.
All in all, these items will cost you $52,900:
- 20 Ultra Balls: $2,400
- 5 Ultra Balls: $5,000
- 15 Hyper Potions: $18,000
- 5 Max Potions: $12,500
- 10 Revives: $15,000
Lastly, you must make sure that the autosave has been turned off. if it’s enabled, your chances of catching a Shiny Palkia will stuff-up
How to Catch Shiny Palkia
Palkia can be caught after beating the 7th gym leader and reaching the summit of Mount Coronet. Commander Mars and Jupiter from Team Galactic must be fought at the mountain’s top. After this battle, the boss must be beaten. Finally, you will be given an opportunity to catch Palkia.
Before walking into Palkia, make sure to save the game. This can be done by pressing the + button and then the R button. Select Save your progress.
Once the battle has been entered, check if you have encountered a Shiny Palkia; exit and reopen the game if not. You will have to repeat this step many times — catching a shiny isn’t easy! There is a 1/4096 chance of encountering a shiny Palkia unless you’re using a shiny charm to improve your chances. Once you have encountered it, it will look something like this:
Using Ultraballs and Quickballs, try catching the pokemon. If your team’s health is low, use Max Potions.

How to Increase Your Chances of Catching a Shiny Palkia
Players can use the Shiny Charm to improve their chance of encountering a shiny Palkia. Follow these steps to learn how to get the Shiny Charm in Pokemon Shining Pearl:
Go to Route 213, and find the building with the game director. He should have a Gengar next to him. Once you have caught every pokemon in the PokeDex, he will give you the Shiny Charm.
