What Does Cross-Platform Mean?
Usually, when you play a video game online, you can only connect and play with users on the same system. You will connect with other Xbox users if you’re playing on Xbox. If you’re on PlayStation, you will only connect with other PlayStation users.
“Cross-Platform” refers to the ability of someone playing on one system to connect and play with someone who is playing on a different system.
If you have a PC but you want to play with your best friend who has a Nintendo Switch, that would normally be an issue. But a cross-platform game could allow you both to play together.
What Platforms is Vigor Available On?
Developed and published by Czech studio Bohemia Interactive (DayZ, Arma), the free-to-play looter shooter Vigor has been released on five systems:
- After being available for more than a year on Xbox Preview, Vigor finally saw an official release onto Xbox One on August 19th, 2019.
- A year later on July 8th, 2020, a Nintendo Switch version was released.
- Later that same year, it was released for PlayStation 4 and 5.
- Just under two years after its initial launch, Vigor saw an updated version released onto Xbox Series S/X.

Is Vigor Cross-Platform?
The short answer is YES; Vigor IS cross-platform. But, It’s not entirely that simple. While there IS a cross-platform element, it is not all-encompassing, and there are caveats.
There are essentially two player bases in Vigor, separated as:
- PlayStation users
- Everyone else…
The PlayStation 4 and 5 versions can play connect and play each other but cannot connect with and play users on the Xbox or Nintendo Switch versions.
Both Xbox One and Series S/X versions and the Nintendo Switch are fully cross-platform with each other. Meaning if you’re playing on any of the three systems and your friend is playing one of the others, you can play together.
Unfortunately, this means if you are playing Xbox, but a friend is playing PlayStation, you will not be able to play together.
Will Vigor Have Crossplay in the Future?
Vigor seems to still be receiving love from Bohemia Interactive, and the player base still seems to be active. However, there is no word at the moment as to whether the game will ever be made fully cross-platform, or if this halfway connected is all we can hope for.
